Two / Three Tier Water Features
Assembly Instructions
Two persons
Carefully remove the packaging, the top tier will have been shipped placed upside down on the lower tier, it is a heavy item and lifting it off and then locating the entire water feature is really a job for 2 strong persons wearing suitable protective gloves and footwear
The cast iron pump, submersible pump and liner are in the base
Position water feature base on level ground – it must be level
Push fit the short piece of black flexible pipe onto the fitting on underside of top tier
Locate the top tier on the base plinth – carefully feeding the pipe through the hole. The top tier is in the correct position when it’s base lines up with the front of the curved plinth.
For Aysgarth's there are 3 tiers which need assembling in this same manner - simply feed the water pipes through the plinth on the mid and top tiers. Locating the top tier needs care and it is essential the whole water feature is level and secure - fit the cast iron pump using step ladders and take care as it is very heavy.
Position the black plastic liner/water reservoir toward the rear of the base and inthe centre to make sure the water flows from the lead spout back into it
Fit the head of the cast iron pump using the 2 set screws - make sure they are tight enough to prevent leaks, but do not use excessive force on them
Position the submersible pump in the bottom of the liner and push fit the pipe from the upper tier onto the pump outlet. Feed the electrical cable through the pre-drilled hole in the rear of the water feature base and then fit a 13amp plug
Where underwater lights are fitted, feed their cables through the pre-drilled holes in the rear of the top/bottom tiers and connect the transformers supplied.
Fill both tiers with water and switch on, ensure the water is falling nicely from the lead spout and back into the liner/reservoir – the liner must be moved slightly forward if the water is not returning into it.
Make sure any electrical supply is protected with a RCD circuit breaker
To plant up, half fill the liner with water to secure it in position and give it some rigidity. Fill the planting area to approx 3” lower than the top of the liner with a suitable medium ( we use bark chippings ) Ensure you’ve got this nicely around the sides of the liner to keep it’s shape. Either use some compost above this level and plant up as normal or alternatively leave the plants in pots and fill right up/mulch with the ornamental bark.

Maintaining/Using your Oak Barrel Water Feature
Your Water Feature is made using a genuine coopered oak barrel. These are designed to become water-tight as the staves swell with moisture and are compressed tightly together. The staves are held in place by the metal rings. When you receive your water feature, it will have been filled and tested and will hold water without leaks. It should not be allowed to dry out as this can cause it to fall apart if moved. If allowed to dry out in warm dry weather, it is normal for the staves to shrink over a short period of days and the water feature may develop some leaks - the remedy is simple - re-fill with water and the staves will swell up and make it watertight again.
The metal bands have been painted and will last many years - the oak surfaces have been treated with natural oils to finish - there are many products available to choose from, we use Rustin’s Danish Oil, applied annually. The electrical submersible pump should be periodically removed and cleaned according to the manufacturers instructions.
To keep the water clear and clean we recommend changing it every 4-6weeks in summer.
Pebbles and marginal plants can be used inside the water features with good results, just ensure you can still get at your submersible pump to maintain it though. Many customers have kept small fish in our water features - they are plenty big enough for goldfish which all add to the attraction.
