Copper Pools and stepped Rills

Copper pools & stepped rills water feature

Two 3 metre square pools connected by a 9 metre run of six connecting stepped copper rills

Fabricated by hand from 3mm thick copper sheets

Concealed LED lighting in the pools and surrounding stonework complete this beautiful water feature

The design, construction & installation of this project involved many hundreds of working hours by a 5 man team - Jeff Lockhart,Nigel Mallas, Sean Byrne, Dave Wilde & Dave Hall

As she's maturing - Sept 2015

Groundworks and digging out

Rigid engineering brick sub-structure to take the load of around 2 tons of copper and 3 tons of water

30 x 8 foot by 4 foot sheets of 3mm copper laser cut and folded - now all the hard work welding them up begins

Nigel Mallas - Getting into the hard work welding

Nigel working yet another 14 hour day welding the many metres of joints required

Dave and Nigel had day after day of clamping, welding, planishing and then polishing endless lengths of joints linking all the pieces together - it's not easy with 3mm thick copper sheets

The pools were each made up from 16 seperate pieces - welded and then planished to appear as one

Dave Wilde after another long day welding / planishing in the workshop

The surrounding gardens are made ready

The top pool delivered to site in 2 halves

Installation began 11th May 2015

The pools when complete weigh approx 850kgs and needed hoisting into position

It's Friday evening and Sean's completed all the stone surround work

After a week of very long days our team of 5 have succesfully fitted all the copper in position and it's ready for finishing next week

Tuesday afternoon and all the structure has been shotblasted and the pools filled for testing

Surrounding site cleared and ready for final landscaping - after just 7 days on site

All to be tested tomorrow when pump / filters fitted

All complete, commissioned and handed over - the shotblasting process will ensure the green patina will form quickly
